Neisseria gonorrhoeae is an aerobic, Gram-negative diplococcus in the family Neisseriaceae, and the causative agent of gonorrhoea, one of the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections worldwide. It infects the mucosal surfaces of the urogenital tract, rectum, pharynx, and conjunctivae, and untreated infections can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, and disseminated gonococcal infection. The genome of N. gonorrhoeae (~2.2 Mb) is naturally competent for transformation and exhibits extensive antigenic variation in surface structures such as pili, Opa proteins, and lipooligosaccharides; the progressive acquisition of resistance to nearly every therapeutic antibiotic class has made multidrug-resistant gonorrhoea a critical global health threat.
Derived from 53,435 genomes: 272 from RefSeq and 53,163 from other sources. For the derivation pipeline and the PASS / WARN / FAIL verdict model, see the methods page for qualibact-v1.1.
QualiBact qualibact-v1.1 thresholds for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, refined from v1.0 based on the expert-feedback survey (Nov 2025).
Two pins on the recommendation of the N. gonorrhoeae subgroup:
All other thresholds inherit unchanged from v1.0. WARN tier preserves the engine's tighter values. See the methods page for qualibact-v1.1 for the full pipeline.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
