Streptococcus oralis is a Gram-positive, alpha-haemolytic coccus of the family Streptococcaceae within the mitis group of viridans streptococci. It is a commensal of the human oral cavity and an early coloniser of dental surfaces, but can cause infective endocarditis and is an increasingly reported agent of penicillin-resistant bacteraemia in immunocompromised patients. Genomically, S. oralis is naturally transformable with a highly recombinogenic genome, and recent taxonomic revisions have subdivided it into subspecies including subsp. tigurinus and subsp. dentisani.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
