Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a non-fermenting, Gram-negative rod of the family Lysobacteraceae (order Xanthomonadales), ubiquitous in aqueous environments, soil, and the rhizosphere. It is an increasingly important opportunistic pathogen in hospitalised and immunocompromised patients, causing pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and catheter-related infections, with intrinsic resistance to many broad-spectrum antibiotics including carbapenems. Genomically, S. maltophilia is highly diverse, comprising multiple genomospecies with an open pangenome, chromosomally encoded beta-lactamases, and efflux pumps that underpin its multidrug-resistant phenotype.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
