Staphylococcus epidermidis is a coagulase-negative, Gram-positive coccus of the family Staphylococcaceae and the most abundant commensal bacterium on human skin and mucous membranes. It is a leading cause of nosocomial infections associated with indwelling medical devices, including central venous catheters and prosthetic joints, primarily through robust biofilm formation. Genomically, S. epidermidis displays considerable strain-level diversity, with an open pangenome enriched in mobile genetic elements carrying antibiotic resistance and biofilm-related genes.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
