Serratia marcescens is a Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic rod in the family Yersiniaceae, well known for producing the red pigment prodigiosin and widely found in soil, water, and hospital environments. It is a clinically significant opportunistic pathogen responsible for nosocomial outbreaks of bloodstream infections, respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, and meningitis, particularly in neonatal intensive care units. S. marcescens possesses intrinsic resistance to colistin and several beta-lactams via chromosomal AmpC, and its genome encodes diverse secretion systems, biofilm determinants, and a broad array of acquired antimicrobial resistance genes.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
