Salmonella enterica is a Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic rod in the family Enterobacteriaceae, and one of the most important foodborne pathogens globally, encompassing over 2,600 serovars. Depending on the serovar, it causes diseases ranging from self-limiting gastroenteritis (e.g., serovar Typhimurium) to life-threatening typhoid fever (serovar Typhi), collectively responsible for millions of infections and hundreds of thousands of deaths annually. The S. enterica genome features multiple pathogenicity islands (SPIs), prophages, and fimbrial operons that drive host adaptation, with a large, dynamic pangenome reflecting extensive serovar-level diversification.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
