Neisseria lactamica is a Gram-negative, oxidase-positive diplococcus in the family Neisseriaceae, distinguished by its ability to utilise lactose, and is a common commensal of the nasopharynx in young children. Colonisation with N. lactamica is associated with the development of natural immunity to Neisseria meningitidis, and the species has been investigated as a basis for novel mucosal vaccine strategies. Genomically, N. lactamica shares substantial core-genome similarity with N. meningitidis but lacks key virulence loci such as the capsule biosynthesis genes.
Derived from 1,327 genomes: 4 from RefSeq and 1,323 from other sources. For the derivation pipeline and the PASS / WARN / FAIL verdict model, see the methods page for qualibact-v1.1.
QualiBact qualibact-v1.1 thresholds for Neisseria lactamica, refined from v1.0 based on the expert-feedback survey (Nov 2025).
Four pins on the recommendation of the N. gonorrhoeae subgroup, applied to accommodate the species' diversity:
All other thresholds inherit unchanged from v1.0. WARN tier preserves the engine's tighter values. See the methods page for qualibact-v1.1 for the full pipeline.
This table summarises the distribution of each metric, including standard deviation, mean, median, and percentiles.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
