Klebsiella variicola is a Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, encapsulated rod in the family Enterobacteriaceae, originally described as a nitrogen-fixing endophyte of plants and closely related to Klebsiella pneumoniae. It is increasingly recognised as a clinically relevant species responsible for bloodstream infections, urinary tract infections, and neonatal sepsis, and is often misidentified as K. pneumoniae by conventional laboratory methods. K. variicola can acquire carbapenemase and hypervirulence plasmids, and genomic studies have revealed distinct population structures adapted to plant, environmental, and clinical niches.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
