Corynebacterium ulcerans is a Gram-positive, non-motile, pleomorphic rod in the family Corynebacteriaceae, closely related to C. diphtheriae and capable of producing diphtheria toxin via a lysogenic bacteriophage. It is a zoonotic pathogen associated with companion and farm animals, and is increasingly recognised as a cause of diphtheria-like pharyngitis, cutaneous ulcers, and respiratory infections in humans in countries where classical diphtheria has been eliminated. Genomically, C. ulcerans strains are diverse, with tox-positive and tox-negative lineages and variable phospholipase D virulence determinants.

How to read this: A value outside a failure limit fails QC. Within the failure limits, values beyond a warning limit are borderline and worth a manual look; values within the warning limits pass that criterion. A dash means that no bound is defined on that side.
